いやぁ、おもしろかった！おもしろかった！笑った！笑った！
2度目だけど、また腹の底から笑っちゃいましてん☆
大人になり、日常で何も考えずに笑うことが、めっきり少なくなったのでバカバカしくて、こうして単純に笑えることがどんなに素晴らしいことか体感させてくれる大好きな映画です。個人的なことで恐縮ですが、今年の6月、甥っ子が大きな手術をして、術後が深刻で「長く生きられないかも知れない」と家族が覚悟していたのですが奇跡の回復を遂げて、そんな甥っ子が病院で「何かDVD観たい・・・」と言ってきたのでこの映画を持って行きました。そうしたら「すごく面白かった！何回でも観たいね！」
とメールがきて、笑いの尊さを本当にかみしめたことを思い出されます。
バカバカしさに一生懸命！大好きな映画です！！

ある程度、年齢を重ねた女子はこういう映画が好きだと思う。
おバカな男たちが奮闘する姿こそ、現実の男子に見事に投影される姿。
普通のアクション映画に出てくるヒーローは、「かっこいい！」とは思うけど周囲にそんなパーフェクト男子が殆どいないのが現実なので、観た後に消化不良が起こる。（のは私だけ？）
男の友情も、単純で素晴らしい。さらに、何のためにそこまで必死になるのかというと、栄誉とか名誉のため、つまりは「自分のため」だったりする辺りも、極めて現実。
この映画って、コメディーだし現実離れしているようで、実はすごーく現実的。
ではないですか？だから私たち女子は、「あるあるあるある！！！」的な意識が潜在的に働いて、「あるある大辞典」のノリで面白おかしく観れてしまうのかも。
「フルモンティ」ほど切実じゃなくて、全てが利己的、個人的な男子が身体的能力の限界に挑む・・・。面白くないわけがない。

The previous film was my choice of comedy ("Life of Brian") - and nobody else in the club laughed much. That was almost unfathomable to me. Now Mi-chan has chosen her comedy favourite - and it is basically unfathomable to me. Mi-chan's revenge! When "Blades of Glory" gets dark (the Kennedy/Monroe ice-skate interpretation, the brother-and-sister insestuous kiss) it raises a chuckle, but mostly this falls flat. Actually, for me, it falls well short of flat. (I'm not sure what falling well short of flat is - perhaps falling but never actually hitting the ground? A fall without a punchline, either)
For me, this is a movie I would usually just dismiss without thinking of why. So it's kind of interesting to try to write at least something. In the accompanying "making of" report on the DVD, Will Ferrell comments about being pitched the story: you have two guys skating together, and there's a joke right there. Is there? If so, I don't get it. I don't get the starting point, so the rest makes no sense. Meanwhile, the jokes are hammered home - ice-splitting humour rather than side-splitting. Nothing glides into place, and little is "naturally" or innately funny for me. Comic timing is blunted (editing, pacing). Performances are limited. But then, where would you go with the starting point of a macho, getting-fat-but-world-champion skater as a character. A character-type who surely doesn't exist, so what's the play on reality/our expectations/satire/character?
But then, I'm not this film's intended audience. It's certainly a mid-America humour thing - this did very well at the American box-office. And clearly, from Mi-chan's reaction it translates better into Japanese humour than "Brian" did. So, producer Ben Stiller (director of last year's equally popular, and to me equally unfathomable, laughless "Tropical Thunder") will be continue to be bankable, backed by bums on seats, and an appreciative audience.
It's just that that audience is not me. As, I said, I would usually dismiss this out of hand and say nothing. Perhaps that's all I can say: simply not a film for me.
