Introduction

調フィルムクラブ

２００６年の暮れ、都内某所にてモノ創りたちの小さなパーティーが行われていた。みんな調布に住んでいる仲間達。そこで話が盛り上がったのは映画の話。モノ創りたちにとって、とめどなく話が溢れだし、とめどなく盛り上がってしまうトピックの一つである。

そんな中、イギリスから来日したデザイナー安堵龍（アンドリュ−）から一つの提案が持ちかけられた。「ちょーフィルムクラブ！」突然発せられたその短いコトバ。モノ作りたちは、時として、アイディアが勝手に膨らんでしまった時、説明はともかく、キーワードやイメージだけが先に口から出て来てしまう事がある。

意味も分からずそのコトバの説明を聞いてみると、不思議な縁で何故かみんな調布に住んでいるモノ作りの映画好き。ならばそのみんなで映画の観賞会をしよう！との提案だった。

ただそれだけではかなりのどんくさい提案のようにも思えたが、映画好きなみんなが見てなくて、自分だけが知っている「良い映画」を紹介しあい、一緒にワインでも飲みながら鑑賞し、コメントを述べあい、勉強しようというのがこのフィルムクラブのコンセプト。

何はともあれ話が盛り上がるのは大好きなモノ創りたち。大概行動は後でいいとなりがちであるのだが、そうはさせじとみんなの意思は固かった。早速その日の内に第一回目の日取りを決め、紹介していく順番を決めるべくあみだ大会まで開催に漕ぎ着け、何が何でも集いあう事を誓いあい、解散となったのだった。

さて、ちょーフィルムクラブについてだが、字は「調フィルムクラブ」と書く。ま、調布に住む仲間で始めるこのクラブ。モノ書き、デザイナー、音楽家、コピーライター等の違分野で働く仲間。出身も大阪、福島、千葉、調布にロンドンまで。タダの駄洒落のようなネーミングのようだが、ロンドン式日本的ギャグなのである。

Cho Film Club started in 2006 after Andrew came to Japan. With several friends in Chofu (Tokyo) it was decided to start a film club along the lines of a book club: somebody chooses a film they want the others to see (and preferably the majority of the others haven't already seen), we watch it together and comment.

Somewhat coincidentally, all the members are in some kind of creative field - a musician, scriptwriters, a copywriter, a designer, producers and an actor - like movies, of course, and like the idea of creating something. But, of course, not everybody agrees what a "good" film is. (In fact, we've discovered most of us don't agree with each other.) We get together and watch over a glass of wine and snacks, and usually make an evening of it including having a meal etc.

The name of the club is a pun on Chofu - "Cho" is from Chofu of course, and the first letter of "film" is "fu" in Japanese; the kanji for Chofu's "cho" has the meaning of something like "report", and "cho" also means "extremely (good/bad etc)".
